City of Woodson Terrace Police Department
I hope you will find this site both useful and informative. We have tried to make available a wide variety of useful information for your convenience, however if you do not find the information you are looking for, feel free to call our office or send us an e-mail and someone will be more than happy to help you.
Our Police Department is staffed by 17 full time Police Officers, five Reserve Police Officers, one Park Ranger and an office staff of one Secretary and two Police Clerks. Of the 17 Officers, four were born and raised in Woodson Terrace. Six of the 17 officers have College Degrees. Seven of the 17 have 25 years or more of experience. Of those seven, one officer has 40 years of experience, and four others have over 30 years of experience in law enforcement. So you can see that we are a well educated and experienced department.
Our department covers an area of about one square mile, with a resident population of just over 4,000 people. We also have five hotels in the city that, when full, add close to another 2,000 people to the population. Being next to an International Airport and having a major interstate running through our city also ads to the workload of the department.
The Woodson Terrace Police Department is comprised of the Patrol Division, which is responsible for answering the calls that come in on a daily basis and also patrolling the streets 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also have a full time Traffic Division which handles all traffic related assignments such as auto accidents, Radar Enforcement, and School Crossing Details to name a few. There is also the Criminal Investigation Unit which consists of the Detective Bureau that handles all follow-up investigations. We also have one detective detached to the St. Louis County Under Cover Drug Task Force. Each of our four shifts in the Patrol Division has at least one officer trained in Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) which also falls under the category of Criminal Investigations. The Administrative Division of the Department is comprised of the Captain (Assistant Chief of Police) who oversees the day-to-day operations of the Department. The Captain is the Commander of the Bureau of Field Operations and the Criminal Investigations Unit. In addition the Captain commands the Bureau of Professional Standards (Internal Affairs), and the Training Division. The Chief of Police is responsible for formulating and maintaining the budget for the entire department, and is the direct liaison to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen in addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department.
