Bicycle thefts are always a problem during warm weather months. Please caution children about properly securing bicycles when they aren't riding them. Make sure the Brand, Model and serial numbers are recorded in the event they are stolen.
Bicycle helmets are lifesavers. Our bicycle patrol officers are required to wear them every time they climb onto a bicycle. All children (and adults) should use helmets while riding. HOWEVER, a word of caution, it is probably NOT a good idea to allow children to wear the helmets while at play. We recently received a warning from our insurance company that children have been killed when their helmets became caught on playground equipment (sliding boards, monkey bars, etc.) The helmet strap caused the children to strangle.
